Im leaving for PI tomorrow, Im bringing an anemometer to document wind speed over the days and bring back some decent data. PI is cheaper than Thai, my hotel is still under construction ill post some pics when i get back, but the other one nearby rents out for 20 to 30 per night and you can sleep in a beach hut for 5 if you like..Rayman's Beach Resort Guimaras is next door...ill post next year when i return..

I think a lot of Americans are a bit nervous about travel to PI these days. I am a seasoned traveler, but it would sound as though you have no worries about travel there. Safe travel?

Can you share a few photos of what it looks like at the resort. I googled the island, so I have a general idea of what the island looks like. If you were to guess the wind speed what would you put it at? Is it windy there occasionally or consistantly?

What do your rooms rent for? What is the cost of food like compared to Thailand?

I go to the PI every year, the middle of Dec 14 to 1st of year,I have a resort on the island of Guimaras,we built it a few years ago and rent out to mostly europeans,,the wind is steady through the straights, water fairly shallow and warm, people nice, much more un touristy than most of Thailand, sort of like vietnam, except it is a bit more civilized and they love americans there...every where I go..its "hey Joe, where you going Joe" and you will be the only kite there which is cool, always draw a crowd!

I recently talked to someone who has been to Chumphon twice, 2004 and 5. They said they had fun there, but said if it is not windy there is nothing to do. I personally would not have a problem with that, as I can always be happy going snorkeling or just hanging. This person has also been to Mui Nei in Vietnam and much preferred it there. The wind in Chumphon is usually 15-20, whereas it seems that it us usually 20+ in Mui Nei.

Personally I really love Thailand and would probably be just fine chasing the wind there over the winter. It all depends on what you like.

In 2005, I was in Thailand and scouted two places that would be ideal for kiting. One was the north coast of Koh Lipe and the other was the SE corner of Koh Muk. Both of these are nice sand beaches, side on wind with no coral. These are both February spots. I would imagine that there are lots of undiscovered places to ride.

Remember that Thailand is very hot and you need not bring much other than the minumum
amount of clothing. Taking a kite and board would not be that big a deal.

I have been reseraching spots in Thailand that are not so "tracked out" and touristy and came to the conclusion of Chumpon also. I still would love to go even though it's been "discovered" it still seems like a good option.
