Beginner kitesurfers' prayers being answered

There's a whole new style of kite that has taken the market by storm and every kite company offers their version. You'll see several of them posted in the photo album section from Best, Slingshot, Cabrinha, Naish & Globerider. These bow style kites offer greater safety for beginners in that they can be fully depowered quickly and easily relaunched when dropped in the drink. With some of them, the bar pressure is minimal which helps reduce the amount of arm fatigue that can result while learning on more traditional kites. Perhaps the best part is that one can get by with a two kite quiver versus the normal 3 to 5 kite quivers that can often be desired to cover all wind ranges.

For those accustomed to the traditional kites, while the economic benefits could be desired, the bar pressure is probably something you've grown accustomed to and will not likely want to give up soon. Hence, with the exception of the Cabrinha Crossbow and Switchblade (which in my opinion have too much bar pressure), the rest may be too little for you. It's not hard to get used to them as they turn fast and certainly have enough pull to keep you moving, it's not the same as locking down a tradition mid or high aspect kite and in steady winds and going for a cruise ;-)

Would love to hear other people's experiences with these new kites. Any one flying one this season?

Well this is my first post here and I haven't even tried to kite yet, but I was at the Outer Banks last week windsurfing and a friend of mine bought a 12m Waroo at Real and he loved the thing.
After 2 years of kiteboarding he said he could finally do a few tricks and go upwind with ease.
He was making jumps and was out for 5 hours in 1 session. In fact he was so impressed that he told me that with no experiance I could buy the same 12m Waroo and control it on land while I was learning if I was VERY careful. I had a 9m Turbo Diesel waiting for me at the Real shop in Buxton but let it go in an attempt to just go for it with a 12m kite. Sounds foolish I know.
The next morning he taught me how to wakeboard and it only took 3 tries to get up every time and after a couple of tries I was switching back and forth on the board.
I was sold.... So friday morning I sold every bit of my windsurfing gear to some of my fellow windsurfers and am now shopping for a Waroo 12m kite and a Liquid force 151 Proof board.
By spring I have every intention to be skating along on a Bow kite.

Very cool. You might be able to find some great deals on gear on iWindsurf.com's "Buy/Sell" section. Waroos are the best of the hybrid/bow kites in terms of having 'C' kite-like grunt. The only thing I didn't like is that there was no stopper for the bar going beyond your reach if for some reason you let go of it. I believe they have fixed this in the 2007 bar currently available.

Yeah, I need to get out east to check out the Outer Banks. Hear lots of good things about that location.

I am the "Friend" Mike is referring to. I have been at this on land snow and water fro almost 3 years solid now. I am jumping solidly since I got my 12M and now a 16M waroo. I use the 07 Upgrade kit on my bar for the stopper. It works very well and was an easy swap. Mike has his Proof board for spring and also a MBS Core 8, but seems to like riding skis the best. I prefer skis to the landboard, but we rearely see enough snow in Central Ohio. THe Outer Banks is the East Coast kite Mecca. Enjoy the stoke and be safe.
      Good Winds,
      Ken

        Hey P-air,
If your heading to the banks drop a line here or at The central ohio Kiteboarding site.
I've been going there twice a year since 93. I can turn you on to some good places to eat, nice lonely launch sites on the sound, etc. Of course if your going to ride waves then you will have perfect launch sites for miles and miles.

        Ken,
        Thanks again man.
        This is one killer sport.
